Post Processing

Since the beginning of the project, I have tried to find ways in which to make the final 3D printed surface as smooth as possible, any imperfection on the last layer comes out when you make a letterpress print. The discovery of the ‘ironing’ function made it much easier, as it made the final surface much more flat, however, it still left a texture that had to be removed. Here are two images of this final texture .

I tried a few techniques, but what I found to be the simplest and most effective was sanding. Plastic has a sanding quality similar to wood, so you can use the same paper, I would start with a low grit (40/80) and then go up until finishing with a high grit (240). There are a few issues with sanding; one is consistent, and the other is time, both I have tried to remedy.
